How To Measure For

A Perfect Fitting Tee.

Finding Your Fit:

How to Measure For a T-Shirt

I have provided t-shirt size guides for each manufacturer’s t-shirt style in the full product description. And while this is typically what we see when buying a new tee, is this enough information to make buying decisions? Well, it’s only helpful if you already know your own body measurements.

To get started, grab a tape measure, your favorite tee, and keep notes about your measurements. Then, you can compare your results to the various size charts.

Do this before you get distracted by all of the pretty new tees you see online!

  • Measure your body length: Apparel manufacturers design clothing to fit all types of body sizes. T-shirt lengths vary from cropped to long for taller women. To ensure your tee drapes comfortably and ends where you want it to, get your favorite well-fitting tee and lay it out on a hard flat surface. To find the body length, take Measurement B (Figure 1). Measure from the center of the back collar seam to the bottom of the hemline to find your ideal length.

  • Measure your chest width: This measurement can get a bit complicated because of the different body types women have. If you are busty, you can use your bra (band) size combined with your cup size to get your ideal chest width. Then verify that by measuring around your chest.

  • Measure your waist size: Most sizing charts do not include a waist size. But, if you are buying a fitted tee, it will be important to ensure the shape tapers naturally to your waistline. Measure your natural waistline just below your rib cage.

  • Measure your sleeve length: Sleeve length is also very important. If your sleeves don’t fall where you want them to, they can absolutely annoy you all day whether they are too short or too long! Measure the outer edge on your favorite tee’s shirt sleeve Measurement C (Figure 1). Make sure to start the measuring on the very outer edge of the seam where the sleeve connects to the shoulder. then measure to the end of the sleeve hem.

  • Measure your neck-to-sleeve length: Since you have your measuring tape out, here are a couple of measurements in case you want to purchase 3/4 length or long-sleeve tees. Measure from the center back neck seam to the outer edge of the shoulder seam.
